Lost dual boot during XP installation on Windows Vista 64 Professi

Hi!
I invested in a new 64 bit computer a few months ago, it was preinstalled
with Vista 64 profession. Then I noticed that some of my hardware (eMagic
Cycle trainer) does not support 64 bit. Then I tried out a vista 32 30 day
trial and then it worked. It was set up as a dual boot. Since my 64 bit
professions was oem, I needed to buy a secun operation system for my PC, so I
then puchased windows xp home edition.
First problem in installation was that my rather expensive microsoft
wireless keyboard did not respond to the F8 key, so I could agree to the
licence agreeement. After buying a new key board, that did work I could move
on with the installation. When installing the CD had errors coping many
files. I've skipped the files and carried on with the installation. Sadly it
failed, badly. The installation is now stuck.

The next problem is that my dual boot i gone and I cant access my other
installation.

Does anyone know how to get back the dual boot ?
Is it not possible to have a dual boot with XP and Vista 64?

try booting up with the xp cd again.

except at the first screen skip install
and select repair.

this will launch the recovery console
and log you into the disk system.

then at the system prompt run
the following commands>:

chkdsk /p
fixboot
bootcfg / rebuild

then exit and remove cd and
retry your boot.

----------------

incidentally, it is the bootcfg command
above that will search your hard disk for
all o.s.'s and rebuild a boot menu.

however, the questions a bit tricky.

basically it will provide a line number
to indicated the order of the selection
line for the menu.

then it will ask for a description.

what ever you input can be changed later
by editing the boot.ini file.

----------------

gl, keep us apprised.

You can have any number of OSs on a PC, provided you use a proper boot
manager such as XOSL. If you wish to stick to native boot managers then you
need to use the one from Vista (because it is the newer of the two OSs). It
would therefore be best if you reposted your question in a Vista forum.

Try EasyBCD and see if it's able to find your dual boot config:

Hi,

See db's message for boot configuration repair.

Generally, when setting up a multi-boot computer, you should install the
OLDEST operating system first.
