XP Install Making HDD bootable

R

RD

I am doing a clean install of XP.
I boot from teh CD, deleted the existing partition, created a new partition
and installed but on the reboot after XP installs it asks for a system disk
(i.e. it does not seem able to boot from the HDD).
Is there a trick to making the new formatted parition bootable?

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except for the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

7. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

Hmm that is rare. You don't happen to have a floppy in the drive do you?

Anyway you might be able to fix this by accessing the Recovery Console. Boot
with the XP CD and at the first screen select the option to Repair with the
Recovery Console. If asked for an Admin password just press Enter key unless
you supplied a password during the install process. At the command prompt
type FIXBOOT and press Enter. When finished remove the CD and type EXIT to
reboot the computer.

I have done all except the critical update becuase the system will not boot
from the HDD.
After the install which goes perfectly it asks for a bootable floppy in
drive a:
during install i deleted the existing partion and created a new partition
using NTFS and formatted...it seems that the correct files to make the HDD
bootable are not getting copied, but I get no error messages.
