I am using XP Professional. When I select Start -> All
Programs I get messages of new programs installed, but
there aren't any. There are several of my existing
programs hightlighted as new as well. What causes this
and how do I stop it?

That is for people who lose what they install (there are many). It stays
highlighted until the first time you click on the program to run it. The
highlight should then go away. Right click on the start button. Then on
Properties/Customize/Advanced. You can turn it off if you desire to.

I'm always surprised (don't know why) when I log on with a different
account and I get notified about new software. In some cases the software
has been on the system for over a year but it's still "new" to that user
account.
