XP Image for Multiple Hardware Types

Hi,

I'm the SOE administrator in our company, and we're currently using a
Windows 2000 image across all models of HP/Compaq workstations. I created
this image without much fuss, but am having a great deal of difficulty doing
the same for XP Pro. I've followed the MS recommendations, read heaps of
forums, and nothing seems to help.

The process I'm taking is:
1. Copy the I386 folder to C:\SOECABS, and install from the local DIR.
2. Build the XP reference OS, using the lowest common PC (Compaq D500).
3. Sysprep the PC using XPSP2 Sysprep and Setupmgr.
4. Ghost the HDD to a network share using a DOS boot disk.
5. Image the next model PC (HP/Compaq D510) with the new Ghost image.
6. Reboot the PC.

The problem is, every time the PC reboots, it goes into "we have a problem"
mode, and asks me if I want to try Safe Mode, etc. When I start the PC in
safety mode, it goes no further than AGP440.SYS, then reboots itself again
into "we have a problem" mode. I disabled AGP440.SYS, and got past the
error, only to be stopped again at MUP.SYS. I disabled MUP.SYS, rebooted,
etc.... and now it stops at NDIS.SYS.

Both machines have the same HAL. Both machines currently use the same
Windows 2000 image. Both machines have very similar hardware. I’m using a
Microsoft supplied XP with SP2 integrated CD. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.
