XP Home Will Not Boot

Hi, I hope you are all doing well.

I have tried every combination to get my Compaq XP Home
laptop to boot, but it always comes back to a blue screen
with the following:

Stop 0x0000007B (0xF8959640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000,
0x00000000)

Unless someone can assist with resolving this problem, I
have decided to just reload the system. However, I would
like to get to a DOS prompt to save off a few files. On
previous Windows versions, you could create a start up
floppy to boot up and access C drive. That does not work
with XP Home or at least I can't get it to work. Does
anyone know of a utility or ??? I can use to boot to C
drive and save some files?

Thanks in advance and have a great day.

insert CD and reboot. You can do the 'Repair Re-Install' that will fix your
problem and also save all your files. Definetely do this before you do a
clean install. But you don't need a boot disk like previous versions of
Windows.

Hi KP,

See http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and click on the 7B line in the
left panel for possible references. The one to

sounds likely - but not really helpful.

I think a restore of the system is likely to be the only way out - but
that will result in your losing all data. I would first *try* borrowing
a regular XP Home CD and using the recovery boot from it to rebuild the
boot.ini file; there is just a chance that the problem arises from
corruption of that: - Boot the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the
immediate R for Repair. Assume any password requested is blank, and TAB
over.
Give:
ATTRIB -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini
DEL C:\Boot.ini
(thus deleting the old one)
BootCfg /Rebuild
