I am considering upgrading to windows XP home edition by purchasing an
upgrade pack, i read in the forums the cd is bootable and requires a previous
version media to be present as verification. i was wondering if my windows 98
upgrade edition cd would be ok?

Yes it will, if you do a clean install. But I would start by running
the CD *from* the Win98 and using Install - Upgrade. If you do a clean
install, then when asked where Windows is by setup pop in the Win98 CD
and on a blue screen asking for a CD put the XP one back
