New PC purchased
XP Home installed
need XP Professional or 2000 Server

Prefer XP Professional

Is it possible to upgrade from XP Home edition to XP Professional?

Will this wipe out all the current config and settings?

How can I maintain my wallpaper and some of my programs?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you'll need the upgrade version of XP Professional.

No.

Just install it as an upgrade to your current OS. All your programs
and settings will be retained.

Yes. Use the regular XP Pro Upgrade (retail) CD - same as for upgrading
200/98/ME though it does not mention Home.

Run it from the existing Home installation, enter Install, continue with
Upgrade, and all will be preserved ( except a few settings in system: if
you have adjusted anything there, check). But always back up important
data just in case of say a power failure at a critical moment
