If I upgrade from XP Home Edition to XP Professional,
can I go back to XP Home Edition if I do not like XP Professional.

Clean install...
Complete system backup (like a drive image)...

Otherwise - no.

No, they are the same core program, pro has more networking things. If you
don't need them, its a waist.

So if everyhing I need is in Home Edition, I do not need to upgrade to XP Pro.

I am learning Oracle and want to create an oracle database on my PC and it
says I need XP Pro. That is why I am thinking of upgrading.

Thanks again.

I do not know what exactly you are installing-but it is entirely possible
that whatever it is *may* utilize some functionality that Windows XP Home
Edition does not have. It is best to go buy the manufacturer's
recommendations (although they may not be 100% accurate.)

The two versions operate on the same code. The Pro version has
additional features, but nothing you couldn't get from freeware.
Unlike most other OSes, you may run into Microsoft validation issues.
If you have extra money, why not spend it on something you need or can
use? A wireless mouse or more memory, perhaps?

Oracle uses a lot of security and the Home version lacks some of that.
However, you may still be able to create/run a database without the
Pro version. Ask Oracle technical support--they are usually very
good. Oracle is a monster!
