XP Home to XP Pro(Home is newer though)

Here at work, we purchased some new pc's that had XP Home on them. We're
part of the MS Partner program, and have XP Pro to install, but it says that
the version of the OS we're running is newer than the one we're trying to
install, so the only way to do it is with a clean install. This isn't
really what we want to do, as the pc's have been used a while, and there are
several things stored as well as programs installed that we'd like to
preserve.

Is there any way around this?

Thanks!
Shawn

Since a non-SP2 version of Windows XP Professional
cannot upgrade over a version of Windows XP Home
Edition with SP2 installed, you'll have to make a new
Windows XP Pro CD with SP2 "slipstreamed", then
use the new CD to upgrade over Windows XP Home.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

Carey,

Thanks! The original "Partner" pack that was sent includes XP Pro w/o SP2
and XP Pro w/SP2. Of course the one w/o is the one that won't install other
than with a clean install. The other one will, but there was no license
number included in the pack! And, the ones(there are two) that are to be
used for the one w/o SP2 won't work. Does this mean that the one w/o has to
be installed and the one with SP2 would just be an "SP2 Upgrade" maybe? With
no license number required? *shrug*

If so, doing it the way you suggested, or a clean install seems to be the
only choices. Or, if we should've received license numbers, then I suppose
we'll just have to contact MS and find out why we didn't, and how to get
them.

Thanks again!
