Getting ready to go to XP Pro and was wondering what the
advantages of a clean install are versus an upgrade.

Don't really want to back up all my files, but will do so
if a clean install is worth the effort.

Thanks

Do a search for - tlov156 - there is some interesting verbiage about your
question

Depends on hgow long you've had XP Home installed.
If you've had it for a while and have loads installed, I would clean install
with Full Format (not quick) because it will give better performance and you
clean out all the junk in the registry from programs you've uninstalled (+
do not intend to reinstall).

That is, unless of course, you have too many irrecplaceable files (programs
from work etc.), then it's probably best to U/G.

If your system is running fine and stable with XP Home, there is no reason
it will not with XP Pro - I would go the upgrade route as they are so
similar.

Unless you want to clean everything out anyway, do the upgrade. If you
have installed video drivers direct from the makers, make sure you have
the download you used still available - there is just a chance that the
upgrade would go back to earlier ones if the ones installed are not
formally certified. If you get any messages about unsigned drivers
elect to keep what is already there
