XP Home to Pro upgrade fails on Sony Notebook PCG-FRV37

I just had to do an Upgrade from XP Home SP1 to XP Pro on this Sony
Vaio PCG-FRV37. Doing the standard Upgrade path will not work on this
laptop. Here is how I had to do it.

- First Create the Vaio Media Recovery Disks. (10 CR-Rom)

- New Clean Install from Windows XP Pro Disc. Format only C Drive
leaving utility Partition in tacked.

- Installed all Current Updates for Hardware/Software from the Sony
Website.
- Sony Shared Library
- Alps Touchpad
- Bios
- Memory Stick Driver
- Modem Driver
- Ethernet Driver
- Sony Notebook Control
- SoundMax Audio Driver/Software
- USB Mouse Driver Update
- Vaio Media Update
- ATI Video Drivers
- Window Update Patch

- Applied All Windows Updates from Windows Update site.

- Install DVD-RW Firmware Update.

- Inserted Disc 1 of 9 from Recovery Media Set.

- Selected Checkboxes of the Software I needed Plus Sony Utils and ran
Install.
- Sony Utilities are Required for the Fn keys to work correctly.

See this post on Sony support site.

"Doing the standard upgrade" will not work? To switch from home to pro,
you dont upgrade, you do a clean install, boot from xp cd,delete current partition
(home),create a partition (raw),then let xp format and install.When its thru,on
desktop, try installing youre sony files to D: drive (asumming its set as an active
partition),then install all windows update to C:.

Good morning Andrew the Eejit.

"To switch from home to pro, you dont upgrade, you do a clean install"

Why? A clean installation is only possible if you have the qualifying media
to insert when asked. A recovery CD (such as is supplied with all Sony
laptops) will not work and an upgrade from Home will be necessary as it's
the only way. Besides, I've always gone the in-place upgrade route and never
had any problems.

I won't bother attempting to decipher the rest of your drivel - I'm too
tired.
