Sony XP Home to XP Professional Install

I have a new Sony Vaio notebook with XP Home Edition SP2 installed. I would
like to upgrade to XP Professional so that I can use IIS. I purchased a XP
Professional upgrade and attempted to install, but the installation stopped
right away saying that the version of XP on my notebook was newer than the
operating system on the CD.

What do I need to do to upgrade?

Did the XP Pro upgrade also have SP-2?
It needs to or you get that error.

You need Windows XP Pro SAP-2 upgrade.

Did you purchase the notebook with XP SP2 or did you apply the SP2 service
pack.
If it came preinstalled, create a slipstreamed XP Pro CD with SP2. If you
applied the service pack, uninstall SP2, then upgrade to XP Pro and reapply
SP2.

We are having the exact same problem. We've been on the phone w/ Sony and MS
all day. Sony says that if you load XP Pro on it that it could mess up all
the drivers, has anyone encountered this problem. Also, whats the
solution????

Michael Stevens was right on track. Thanks a lot, Michael.

All I had to do was uninstall SP2, install XP Pro, then reinstall SP2.

Sony technical support was absolutely clueless after numerous requests for
assistance.

Jupiter -

I have the same issue (upgrading a vaio with XP Home SP2, to XP Pro). How
do I get Windows XP Pro with built-in SP2, so I don't have to unintsall sp2
from my xp home? how can I tall if it's not old inventory, without the SP2
built-in? can you give me an example link at any retailer?
Thanks!

Rob
