XP Home SP2; Can't shut down

I'm running XP Home SP2 on my desktop. My current issue is that I
can't shut down the computer. I have tried both the shut down from the
Start menu and the Task Manager without success. I have also tried to
Log off and Restart.

Is there anything else I should check?
