XP Home repair to SP2

I help a friend to fix problems in his Win xp system. We decided to run
repair with a slipstreamed XP Home OEM sp2 CD. Everything went well. When
entering the product key , it complains "not valid". OK, no misspelling. The
key can be invalid or pirate. OEM key issued by IBM.
When rebooting the installation always starts and I am in a loop. How to get
out of the loop coming back to the original system ( not working that well
but anyway)??
Or am I really stuck here! Forced to do a clean install?

What installation is starting..XP ? I'd say that the slipstream of SP2
ruined the
oem disk,thier configured at the factory to stay in that format...

When restarting the system, the installation process restarts. I want to
cancel this and return to the original system state using XP SP1.
The upgrade process is in "preparation state" and when I could not give a
valid product key , I am stuck. Do you mean that the installation process
has tampered with my original system on hard disk already despite I have not
acknowledged with the key?
So , can I some way recover to the original system cancelling the
installation upgrade?
