I'm working out a worst case senario with a computer with windows XP
home installed

The computer is currently running an activated OEM copy of xp home with
service pack 1 installed - I cannot find the original disk, however.
What I do have is a DELL disk with service pack 2.
Can I safely repair/ reinstall the o/s using the DELL disk, then change
the serial when I activate windows?

No. The Dell CD won't work since it is BIOS-locked
for use only on a Dell computer.

If it's a Dell Disk with SP2, then I would bet that it's a regular OEM
Windows XP disk and not one of their older BIOS locked CD's. As of the
last year, all of the Windows XP cd's we've seen from Dell have been
non-locked Windows XP OEM CD's, some with a Dell color scheme, some
without, but none have been locked.

LOL, you're not quite as good a PCBUTTS1, but at least you're showing

You haven't been right about anything yet. When you are, I'll tell you.

You seem a bit upset, so do try not to beat up the wife and kids too much
when they get back from shopping for you.

What is the make and model of the computer?

Why do you want to reinstall / repair. Might not there be another way to
resolve your unstated problem?

Hope this helps.
