xp home or xp pro?

So if I am getting this right, remote desktop will never work with any
operating system except xp pro? Remote desktop sownloadable is available for
what, xp pro only? Or can it be downoaded to Home (which has remote desktop
included), Win 98 SE, and can remote desktop work with mixing operating
systems like home connecting to 98se? I have been told it should work from
home to 98se, but I am getting from this newsgroup that it will only work
with xp pro. If that is the case, then why does xp home have it and why make
it available to download?

The downloadable Remote Desktop client software is available for Windows
2000, Windows Me and Windows 9X. The Remote Desktop client software is
preinstalled on Windows 2003, Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Home.

Only a Windows 2003/Windows 2000 Server PC running Terminal Services or a
Windows XP Pro PC can act as a host to the Remote Desktop client PC.

If you need to remotely access/control a Windows 2000 (not a server PC),
Windows XP Home, Windows Me or Windows 9X machine you need to use a
third-party application like VNC. I recommend and use UltraVNC with its
encryption plug-in. Get the server, client, encryption plug-in and XP
Windows driver from...

I have been using VNC. However, we have a payroll program that we would like
to print checks from the remote computer on the printer at romote location. I
understand from info that remote desktop has remote printing capability. I
have also tried PCanywhere, but cannot get drivers to install for the remote
printer. I thought I would ask about xp remote desktop, however, server will
be 98se and remote is xp home. I will have to upgrade to pro and see if that
will work for us.
thanks for your help.
