I have just bought a laptop which came with XP Home edition installed,
and I am wondering if I will get better performance by changing it over
to 2K which is my current OS of choice.

Many thanks

Richard

Simple answer, no. Laptops are already usually pretty
lacking in performance compared to desktops, even when
the part specs match up. In terms of ease of use, speed,
and mobility (which is probably one of the reasons you
bought a laptop), XP is better than Win2K.

Also, consider the amount of time that it takes for Win2K
to load up compared to WinXP. When you're running on
batteries, that makes a big difference in how long
they'll last on one charge.

Hope this helps,

My W2K takes exactly 60 seconds to boot up. How long does it take XP Home?

You may also find that yr Laptop manu doesnt have win2k drivers, and or
warranties/support is invalidated

I'm not real fond of XP but it does have better laptop support than 2K
does. I'd keep your life simple and keep XP on it. You can tweak XP to
make it appear and behave more like 2K if you want to, which will give a
little better performance by turning off all the eye candy (fades,
slides, etc.).

Thanks I have done that and now at least it looks more like I am used
to!

Cheers
