XP Home language packs - lost XP CD

Browsing the web with IE6 and some pages require install
of language packs. When I try to do this, it tells me
I'm missing some files. I have lost my XP CD, so I don't
know how to get the files I need to complete the language
pack install. Is there any way to get a new copy of my
XP CD? Or do I have to buy a new one? Or are the files
somewhere so I can do the install?

Victoria, you need the WinXP Cd to transfer the files you need to your hard
drive. If you could borrow a friends that would
work.

My XP Home came from OEM with the laptop. Tech Support
says I have to run the recovery CD, which will wipe and
re-format my hard drive in order to reload all the files
I need for the i386 directory. Obviously, I'd rather not
do this if I can avoid it. If I borrow a friend's CD,
will it be a problem if the serial ID# doesn't match
what's on my laptop?

It depends upon what you are going to try to do with your friend's CD? You
cannot load it over your current setup and since it asks for a CD key during
a repair install, even if you manage to get it installed, this will cause
problems for you down the road. Because it is a different CD than what was
originally used on your system, it will need to be activated and that won't
work because it is already activated on another system. Without activation,
your system will cease to function after 30 days and you'll be locked out.
This could not only cause problems for you but also for your friend.
