Hi:
My laptop was cut off power (icluding battery) when apparently it was
saving automatically three big Word files. When i attempted to boot it
up it sent me to the black screen with options for "Safe boot", "Boot
with latest configuration", etc. With any of the 5 options the system
does not start but reboots wgen the first Windows symbol appear and
send me back again to the black screen. Starting from a floppy with
the NTFS reader (www.ntfs.com) i recovered a few critical files (while
the system was obviously overheating because the fan made the
next-to-maximum noise). Starting from a bootable CD with XP there is
message saying something related to the "page file" and the it would
not start. By looking at the directory tree with the NTFS reader at
least i know all my files are there. Any clue to solve my ordeal? May
it be related to the pagefile.sys file?
Thanks

The sudden power down may have damaged files needed to boot the
machine or bring up the registry. At this point, it might be best to
try a repair install of XP. There are some real good instructions on
how to do a repair at the following web site. Please follow closely.

Thanks mate. I have to change the boot order in Bios first.
I'll use the XP CD to perform a Repair Install,
or alternatively i'll use the Repair Console as indicated in
http://www.digitalwebcast.com/2002/03_mar/tutorials/cw_boot_toot.htm
which seems to be a less radical way to go.
I hope i don't mess up. Any further suggestions much much appreciated.
