XP Home Installation Hangs

I've just put together a new computer:

ASUS P4C800 Deluxe MB
P4 2.8GHz C CPU
1 Gig RAM

Have all the components installed properly, but when Windows XP Home
installation starts, it gets as far as the text mode message "setup is
investiagating your hardware components..." then it goes to a blank
screen and the system hangs. I should also say that my XP CD is the
pre-service pack 1 version.

I read this problem may be caused by a GeForce video card, so I
installed an old PCI SVGA card for the installation process, but I
still have the same problem. I have also turned off all the
Motherboard's onboard components (USB, LAN, etc.) in case these were
causing the problem, but it still persists. Any ideas what may be
happening here? Thanks. J

Are there any other components in your machine that could be removed?

i'm sure it;s some type of HW incompatability

Check all your bios settings carefully, last time i forgot to tick on
"plug'n'pray OS installed", it froze too. Video bios shadow, pci latency,
irq assignments etc. can also screw it up.

Most likely it is memory problem

Try less memory modules or different memory.

If still problem disable in bios MEMORY TURBO or SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.
