XP Home Freezes upon Shut Down

There is one problem that has come up recently. I can't turn off the
computer nor put it in stand-by mode without having to push the power button
now. I do get to the blue screen where it says preparing to shut down or
preparing to stand-by, then the mouse locks up and it just idles until I
push the power button. ????????????????????????????????? It always would
turn off by itself before.

Suggestions?

Also, make sure that your computer is 100% virus and spyware-free. Post
