XP Home freezes on standby

I get the "preparing to standby screen" and windows then locks up
indefinitely. The only mention of this in the tech files has to do with Nero
Cd burner, which I do not have on this machine.

I should add that I recently did a fresh reinstall of XP. My machine is
quite clean and my drive appears to functioning properly.

Anyone have any ideas?

Researched it some more and found an answer. Ran sfc /scannow from the
command prompt and apparently I had some missing files. That fixed it.
