XP Home failed to install upgraded software

Mr. Low

Hi,

Recently I have downloaded the latest version of the following software as
an upgrade to the existing one.

Existing Software Upgrade to
Abode Reader 8 Abode Reader 9
IBM Lotus Symphony 1 IBM Lotus Symphony 1.2
Sun Open Offoce 2.4 Sun Open Office 3.0

Surprsingly, I have failed to install all the new software. The set up could
run smoothly from unpacking until the stage of removing old program files but
could not go beyond this. The installer indicator would roll back at this
point. The eror mesage was my system has not been modified and the
installation coulkd not be completed.

May I know what might have caused this problem and how to overcome it ?

Thanks

If you have a third-party firewall such as Zone Alarm, try disabling it
first, then do the installs. Don't forget to re-enable it afterwards.

Hi SC Tom.

I shut off the Norton Firewall , but still have the same problem.

Is there any other solutions ?

Thanks

Assuming you are logged in as an administrator, you could try uninstalling
the old programs first, then installing the newer versions.

Hi,

I have found a solution to this long outstanding problem.

The problem was caused by myself when I disabled all the Add On under the
Internet Explorer due to frequent crashes.

Today I enabled all of them, the Window Updates and all other newly
downloaded software could not be installed successfully.

Do take this as a possible cause for similar problem encountered by other
users in the future.

Thanks

Hi SC Tom,

I have finally found the solution to this problem.

It was actually due to disabling of all the Add On in my Internet Explores.
I did it earlier because of frequent crashes.

Today I enable all of them and I have successfully installed all the window
updates and other newly downloaded software.

Thank you anyway for your help.

Kindly share this tip with other users if they faced similar unresolved
problem.

Thanks and have a nice day.
