A friend of mine unchecked some vital services in
msconfig. Does anyone have a list of services that are
required for XP to boot normally? His desktop does not
appear and he is only able to get to a command prompt. I
was going to have him run the Recovery Console, but I
don't know what services he should enable. Thanks.

Make sure RPC is enabled. Can he boot into safe mode at all? He can run
msconfig from there as well.

Like most windows applications the two main programs
that have to run from start up is systray and windows
explorer.try these first if this dose not work then you
might have to re enstall your system loosing all your
files,so save them before if you can.
