Ok I have been pulling my hair out over this one...
I am now working on this problem for three people...
The common symptoms:
*All are using MSN as their ISP
*All are running Windows XP Home edition
*All Have HP systems
*All Had the Blaster Virus.
*All are getting disconnected from the internet
(Frequently with MSN8)
*Windows Update Does not get past the "Scanning your
system" It reaches 100%, disconnects you from the
internet, and fails to produce a list of items that need
to be updated.
Some of them say the problems started when they upgraded
to MSN8, others say it's when they installed SP1.
I personally am unable to reproduce the symptoms on my
system.
I have tried what seems like everything to fix this.. I
know the virus is no longer on the systems. I have even
Setup an account with a REAL ISP (not msn8) to do dialup
this resolves the problem of getting disconnected
frequenly, but as soon as I try to run windows update I am
disconected at the end of the "system scan".
(with MSN i keep getting disconnected FREQUENTLY. I think
this is a symptom of the problem)
Any Ideas out there, or can anyone confirm similar
problems, or even better how to fix it?
