Currently have home edition on my computer and want to add a new laptop with
XP professional on it.When hooking up the wireless,my home computer can see
the laptop, however the laptop cannot see the home computer so I cannot share
files from the home computer or share the printer.I was told that home
edition and XP Professional are not compatible together for wireless.Any
known answers or problems with this application?

Home and Pro can exist together on the same home network. Home is
limited to simple file sharing and Pro can use Simple or more advanced
sharing.

A few simple checkpoints:
Create shares on the home computer for the laptop to discover?
Adjusted firewall on laptop to allow home networking?
Both computers in the same workgroup (not necessary but makes it easier)?

A good reference for setting up networking:

You were told wrong (about the compatibility).

Most problems such as you describe are caused by firewalls on one or
both computers. Try shutting off all repeat all firewalls, including
the Windows XP built-in firewall, at least temporarily, and see if
that resolves the issues.

If you are using a router that has NAT capabilities (and at least 99
and 44/100% of the routers sold today have this) then there is little
or no need for addtional firewall protection on the computers that are
connected to the router *unless* you have reason to protect against
attacks from other computers connected to your home/office network.

Good luck
