upgrade xp home edition

my computer has not had upgrades for 2 years (no internet). Now that I am
back on line, when I load the upgrades to my Windows Xp Home Edition, Version
2002, Service Pack 2, my excel won't work and it says I must load my xp
professional software disc. I restore my computer to a previous date to keep
my home edition software working.
