XP Hanging In ... Explorer?

G

Gary Brown

Hi,

For the past few months I've had occasional hanging where
the only way out was a hardware reset. The mouse moves
and I can launch from the desktop but any attempts to use
the taskbar or Start menu just get an hour glass. Switching
between tasks yields a blank window, i.e., windows don't
repaint. Task manager shows no CPU use. Attempts to shut
down from Task Manager do nothing after waiting hours.

Is this a known problem with a solution or is it time to
reload XP from scratch? I restored a backup but the problem
resurfaced. If I go back much further I might as well reinstall.

Thanks,
Gary
