terminate hanging applications

Hi,
Im searching for a way to terminate hanging processes
under Windows XP even if they can not be killed with the
Task Manager. I don not mean system processes which are
protected, but plain user applications which sometimes
hang and can not be shut down by any method of my
knowledge (except for rebooting). Although I have already
tried several other ways (e.g. tools like "Process
Explorer" or similar) I hope that someone has an advice
for me.
Regards
Christoph

You're possibly looking for a couple of Registry Keys/settings
that can help. One is called AutoEndTasks and the other is
"WaitToKill". Do a Google for details. Those tweaks are on
a number of Websites dedicated to tuning Windows XP.

Have you tried bringing up the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click "Task
Manager"), selecting the offending program in the list and clicking
"End Task"? I've not yet seen the misbehaving application that this
won't get rid of.
