Will any of the games that are released for Windows XP editions be able to be
played on the new Windows Vista editions (like The Sims 2)?

Yes, the bulk of games will work on Vista. I've tried a couple of dozen and
have only found one that doesn't at the moment.

Games which to use OpenGL libraries WILL NOT play on Vista.

The Vista recognize DirectX games ONLY.

Doom 3, Quake 4, Pray and so on are NOT Vista compatible.

That's hopefully not the case with the final version of Windows Vista.
If so I will not be buying Windows Vista :-(

Oh Really?
I was able to play the Prey demo on Vista x64 using the Nvidia 88.61 drivers
which ..."Includes OpenGL driver for compatibility testing. "

I think I might install Doom 3 and check it out now....

You probably have to install the game into Vista. You may have copied the
Programs file, but you didn't mention whether you transferred all the
Registry settings.

Which game might that be?

Here's my current list:

Zoo Tycoon 2*
Half-Life 2*
Civilization 4*
Battlefield 2
Rise of Legends
Quake III Arena***
Unreal Tournament 2003***
Oblivion
Morrowind
Black and White 2
Warcraft 3**
World of Warcraft
Halo
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfigher
Sim City 4*
Guild Wars
Call of Duty 2
FEAR
Command & Conquer Generals
Command & Conquer Renegade
StarCraft
Final Fantasy XI
EverQuest 2
Diablo II
Star Wars Galaxies
FIFA 2006*
Call of Duty
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
DOOM 3

*Problems, on my setup I had to run them into a window first to prevent them
from crashing, I'm assuming a video driver bug not letting them pick up
resolution details. Others have mentioned lowering the desktop resolution
to the same as their default start-up resolution resolves it too.

**Works fine with retail version, but latest patch breaks sound.

***Mouse acceleration seems to be turned on.

What is your system? What is the ver. of Vista?
In what mode did you start OpenGL games (Doom 3, Prey etc.). In DirectX?
What was the resolution? Performance?
How did you turn on support of OpenGL in Vista Beta 2 x32?
Is it possible for ATI Radeon x700 Pro?
Newest drivers from ati.com do not set up OpenGL libraries into Vista and do
not recognize them if they already in.
All these OpenGL games playing only in 640x480 DirectX mode or hang up on my
machine with Pentium 630 and 2Ggb RAM

Add: (For list of "working" games - at least for me anyway!)

NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED: Black Edition (DVD)

SIN EPISODES: Emergence

F.E.A.R. (Needed taskman to end a few unecessary processes in order to work)

Sorry for repeating F.E.A.R. but I thought the added piece of info might
help others!
No patches were installed for games! They were installed and played straight
out of box!
All games were played in the 32-bit ver of Vista.

My PC-Setup:

Mobo: ASUS P5GDC-Deluxe (LGA775, Intel 915P+ICH6R, CPU-Lock Free, FSB-800
O/C'ed)
BIOS: AMI ver: 1011 beta-005
CPU: 3.0GHz Intel P4 630 (O/C'ed to 3.6GHz and Vista doesn't seem to mind!)
System RAM: 1GB (Generic) Dual DDR2, PC4200 (533MHz - O/C'ed)
Video: "Xpert-Vision" GeForce 6600LE (512meg)
Sound: Onboard CMI 9880 (Vista seems to have issues with onboard CMI chips
but I have this working fine now nonetheless!)

Cheers,

Lee-roy (Australia)
