XP Freezes randomly

This problem is vexxing to say the least. I built a new computer, and after
installing all up to date drivers and windows updates, it would freeze
randomly, reguardless of what you were doing or program was running. I think
it was not doing so before hand, though it just be that when doing the
updates, it did not have enough time to freeze before an update. Thinking it
was a RAM problem I purchased new ram sticks, and no go. Then deciding a
diagnostic would help I took it into a shop to have them look at it, hardware
is all functioning correctly. So its software, what I am curious about is,
has anyone else run into this, and do you have any ideas that may help.
QUick system specs, AS8N32-SLI board, Opteron 2.4 dual core AMD processor,
Geforce 7950 GT PCI Express card, 1 gig RAM, Plextor SATA DL/RW DVD Drive,
Sony IDE DVD Drive, (1) 160gig SATA HDD, (1) 320 gig SATA HDD. I have helped
put a couple systems like this together, though the video card was a 7900 and
it was missing the 160 gig dive and SOny drive, other than that it was the
same and no problems. Im just hoping someone can help me, so I can get rid
of some gnawing stress, thank you.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.

Well they had the primary HDD fail tests, so they figured that was the
problem. I pulled it, and was using the secondary instead, plugged
everything back in, and after loading windows, but while wiating for the
phone so I could activate my copy, due to numerous reloads, It froze again.
Direct X is upto date and so were all the drivers, so I guess its back to the
shop agian.

Also tried a fix from microsoft for dual core processors, kept it from
freezing for 5 or 6 extra minuets. Well with luck the guys at the shop will
figure out whats up.
