XP Freeze-up

Being driven mad by my laptop freezing while in full
operation. Now happening about 2-3 times a day. [Even
froze while posting this message. Key board won't
function at all nor mouse/touchpad. Only option is to
blitz out using the power key and reboot.

My own experience with system freezes boiled down to two hardware items:

1. defective mouse

2. defective video card

With one computer, it was in fact a defective mouse. With another, it was
a defective video card adapter. It tool several weeks to pinpoint the
problems, but replacing the hardware solved the problem. How or why
these items turned defective is anyone's guess. There were never any
error messages generated by Windows XP when the freezes occurred.

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your laptop computer,
search for the latest Windows XP compatible drivers for your specific
laptop model, download and install them.
