Xp flickers and shuts down

I need help!! Please!! I have had my computer in the shop twice in the last
to weeks and they can't fix it. I went threw the forums to see if other
people were having the same problem a few were and I tried some of what they
tried. First this is what my problem is...all the sudden my screen started
flashing black every once in a while. Then a few days after that it just
started going off. No shut down no warning would just go off the turn itself
back on. When I put it in the shop the guy did a clean install (he said clean
but I'm not sure becuase I didn't have to reistall my printer) and did all
the updates, replaced two of three of my fans. Overheasting is not the
problem. I checked my error logs and i do have some warnings but have no idea
what the mean. or which one would be needed. One of the posting said that Com
and VSS services needed to be started I did go into services and applications
to check my services although honestly i don't know what any of them do. I
have two services that say Com ...event system and system application. the
start up type is manual on both adevent system was stopped. I started it and
then started the VSS service, it was also stopped and set to manual.
Evderything was great for about four hours and then the flickering to a black
screen started again. So i went back to check and then Com application
services was stopped as well as the VSS service. I'm not sure what those
services do but they do keep shutting off after awhile. I have no viruses or
spyware that could be causing the problem. can someone PLEASE help me I don't
know what to do. Thanks in advance.. Wendi

I had the same problem with my monitor at work. It was the power cable (the one that connects the monitor to electricity.)

Steven I don't think that is my problem because I wouldn't think that would
make my computer shut down. My monitor is less than a year old. I'm going to
borrow a friends monitor and cable tomarrow just to be sure. thanks

Hi, is your computer shutting off or is your monitor just "blacking out"?

Hi... my computer was shutting off when it flickered and rebooting all on
it's own. Since I did a reinstall of XP so far it hasn't shut off again when
if flickers but is still flickering a black screen, and it is flickering less
since I went into my services and restarted my Com services and VSS services.
But both of those services shut them selves off periodicly and I have to
restart them. It seems like it is flickering when i'm in the middle of doing
something. For example.. I was going into the services area in computer
managment and when I would click to open something it would freeze for a
second and then flicker black the proceed to open what I clicked on.
Sometimes it will also effect the words on a page. Like in my list of
services after it flickered black and then open the list, there was blank
areas on the screen untill I scrolled up and down then the blanks filled in.
That just started happening last night. At first it would flicker black and
reboot as soon as I turned my computer on but since I did the reinstall,
changed my anitvirus and did all the updates ect. it stoped shutting
down...knock on wood....I don't know what to try next and the small company
who made my computer has had it in there shop twice and can't figure it
out....so frustrating...any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.
