only boots to the blue windows xp screen and no further... i tried to
reinstall xp but the system will not give me the option to boot from cd

Any ideas? Please!!!

Regards frim Ireland

Hi Tom,
Have you tried going in Safe Mode then do a System Restore to just before
you installed the program ?
Keep hitting F8 during bootup then you can select Safe Mode.

Hi again,

thanks for the quick reply... but I tried that and it still gets stuck on
the blue xp screen...I also tried all the other start options... am really
stuck i guess... if i could even get it to recognise the cd, but it wont give
me the option to boot from that.

Any ideas?

If you installed KB908531 (Windows update) within the last couple days
(check you add/delete panel to see if it updated your computer) there is a
problem with that update and I, in my case deleted it, and computer is back
to normal. Good luck

Dan

Hi Dan,
He can't get into windows to try that. I never install any updates until
I've seen the results posted here.

Tom,
Looks loke the only option left for you is to do a Repair Installation of
XP. You will not lose any data etc when doing the repair installation. If
you don't know how to do it - Post back here and we will let you know.

Hi guys,

I should have said, its not on this computer, its my laptop, i didnt install
any updates of any kind on it....

Thanks guys,

belive it or not i cant do an xp repair either because the comp wont give me
the option to choose run from cd, i made an floppy boot disk from this comp
to try it on the laptop but i cant use that either.

I really appreciate all the help i'm getting here... hopefully someone will
be able to help.

Thanks.

You have to go into bios and set the first boot device to the cdrom and set
the second boot device to the hard drive. When it boots watch for a screen
that says something like - Press any key to boot from cd.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help, I changed the bios to allow
me to boot from CD and reinstalled XP... worked great.

If you ever come to Ireland... I owe you a pint!

Hi Tom,
Glad to help !
Did you do the Repair Installation or a clean install?

I'll take you up on that pint !

Ron

I did the clean Installation, lost everything, but its no problem... they're
wasn't much on it anyway, and i have copy's of everything anyway.

Thanks again....

Tom.
