XP fails to assign drive letter

Win XP recognizes an external USB2.0 HD in Device Mgr but
fails to assign a drive letter visible in Win Explorer.

Admin Tools/comptermanagement/storage/disk
management "sees" the device.

Other devices such as digital camera do get assigned a
drive letter.

How can I make XP initialize a drive letter both in Pro
and Home?

Please respond also to email address because I'll never
find this newsgroup again.

Are you using Power Toys TweakUI or some such?

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

In its My Computer - Drives page, ensure that all letters are checked
