XP error message when trying to Update virus def. in Norton

I get the following error message, when trying to update virus definitions in
Norton Antivirus:
"Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1
Common Client Core 2.1.0

Could not find installation path for at least one component"

This is then followed with message from Norton: LU1806. Filed to complete
installation.....

I tried downloading SP2, but it created a lot of problems, and have since
removed it, using Advanced Uninstaller Pro 2004.

Can anyone help me past this?

try updating your Live Update app first.
