XP Error Code 0x8007007f

Clean load of XP Pro. After installing of SP1a at boot I
get the following message: " A problem is preventing
Windows from accuraely checking the license for this
computer." I can not even get into the machine via
safemode. Any ideas on how to fix this one without having
to do a reload??
