Hello all,

I have a windows XP (SP1) machine. Everything is working fine except
working/editing in the registry.

When I do a search in the registry, the system will crash (Blue screen
of death) I tried to fix the problem by running regcleaner but that
programm also results in a BSOD. The BSOD is reproduceable.

What can I do to dis-corrupt the registry??

Thanks,
Andre

Hi

Can you post the details of the BSOD - someone may then be able to help you isolate the problem.

Hi Will (and others)

Thanks for your interrest. Well, the blue-screen pops-up and
dissapears very fast. I cannot write down the information, because the
computer is allready rebooting.

Where can I find the BSOD-information else?

regards,
Andre

It will be in event viewer. Plus in Start - Control Panel - System -
Advanced - [Startup & Recovery] Settings - and make sure either reboot is
unticked or write event log is ticked.

What is regcleaner? If it's like regclean it won't help. You need something
like scanreg which is not in XP. Howerer it's so easy to write scanreg type
programs that some nice man did [and it's part of MS propaganda that XP
doesn't need this stuff - even though you can almost do it by hand in
Regedit].

http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/

erunt is the backup part of scanreg equilevent, and NTRegOpt is the
optimising part of scanreg equilevent. This writes the registry out as valid
optimised files and reimports them on next boot.

This is the same as exporting each hive file using File - Export - Hive
File in Regedit. What regedit can't do is replace the old reg with these
files.

Go to my computer, r-click, properties, advanced, startup & recovery,
and turn OFF 'restart after failure'. That way you'll be looking at the
blue screen 'suicide note' until such time as you press the reset button
on the PC.

There may be some entry in the event logs (my computer, r-click, manage,
even viewer), but usually not.
