XP doesn't boot after uninstalling VIA miniport IDE driver

I recently reinstalled XP sp2 on my system. Just thought I would start again,
comp was slow. Everything was fine comp was up and gping fast, but I noticed
that everytime I restarted my system a pop-up box would say "found new
hardware"-"VIA Bus IDE Master Driver".

So I searched all over for the drivers and ended up I think installing the
wrong one which was a VIA IDE miniport driver. I eventually found a VIA 4in1
v4.43 (I think that was the version off driverguide) which said was
compatible with XP. Well I go to install that one but I must of course
uninstall the miniport half way thru the 4in1 install wizard. So I uninstall
the miniport then I have to reboot to remove it completely so I do. now the
computer won't boot.

Gets past the boot screens, and come up with the screen where it says
something like "windows didn't start up successfully, there may have been
sw/hw changes/power outtage etc" and it has the options:

safemode
safemode(with networking)
safemode(with command prompt)
Last known good config
Start Windows normally

All of them fail to boot to the windows login screen all keep recycling to
the original bios+hw boot screen then it displays the options above again.

I've put the XP CD back in the cd drive but I'm not sure how to use the
recovery console with all of its commands. Can someone help me!

FYI I did create a restore point before I started installing the VIA Bus
drivers, is there anyway I can boot to that?

hw specs:
1.4 Tbird
512ddr
20gb
Shuttle AK31 mobo (bios 2.x)
gforce2gts
pioneer106dvdrw
xp sp2
