HOWTO: Uninstall the miniport drivers !??!! - have wireless problems... network bridge??

B

Bob

I have 2 questions which interrelate:
1) how do I delete scheduler miniports ?
2) what is the purpose of the network bridge? (I know it's SUPPOSED to
bind multiple adapters)

A number of weeks ago, I installed a wireless nic in my laptop running
XP, which has an integrated nic on the motherboard I also use.

recently, the wireless nic stopped authenticating with my wap. I have
found that when I need to switch btn the normal nic & the wireless,
that I have to change my network settings.

They don't seem to want to work together under "1 configuration". (not
trying to use both at the same time)

In trying to get the wireless nic working; I borrowed a friends wifi
nic to see where the problem was.

I've tried EVERYTHING to get the wifi nic working again, and CAN NOT.
I've decided I want to uninstall EVERY networking component, and
re-install.

I had multiple copies of the "packet scheduler miniport" for the SAME
NIC; as well as (of course) having copies for each NIC.

the miniport for MY wifi nic, uninstalled with the driver for the nic.
but I had to INSERT the wifi nic in order for this to happen
correctly. I no longer have my friends wifi nic, and have removed the
driver from the device manager manually.

I now have copies of the miniport left over and CAN NOT delete them to
save my soul!!!!!

if I try to uninstall them, i get " failed to uninstall the device;
may be needed to boot up ". I KNOW I don't need this driver to boot
up. WHY am I getting this message?

I've even tried deleting it in the registry. I successfully deleted
most of its entries, but there are 2 that I can't even delete from the
registry!!!! - NOT EVEN IN SAFE MODE!!!!!!!??????

when I try to delete:
HK_local_machine/system/controlset001(x)/enum/pcmcia/dell-blabla
or
HK_LM/system/controlset001(x)/enum/root/MS_pschedMP/0002
I get: " cannot delete dell...: error while deleting key.".

WHAT IS THE DEAL HERE??!?!

NEXT; the network bridge.
I know what it's supposed to do; but I've NEVER seen it work
correctly. In fact, my wifi nic will not work AT ALL unless it is
OUTSIDE the bridge!!!???

what EXACTLY is this darn thing really for, and why doesn't it do what
I have read it's supposed to do??

tia (big sigh) - Bob
