Hello, have 2 computers .The 98se connects to sbc dsl via Ethernet wire with
no problems.the xp prof in not able to recognize 2wire router it asks me to
connect router, the router is installed properly and connected and the
software is correct too.I have disabled Mc kafee which i disabled .dell was
no help .sbc tried but really it is not there problem . dell is 5 months
old.need help please .Thank you.

I was not aware that any software was necessary to use a router. It is self
contained. Are you certain you are referencing "router" software, or are you
referring to your LAN adapter software - which enables your computer to
interface with the network adapter? The LAN adapter then talks to the
router.

If the 2Wire modem is also a router (check with the documentation you
got when you purchased it from SBC), then AFAIK you only need to
install the 2Wire software on one computer. The other computer can plug
into an ethernet port on the modem/router and just surf. Configure it
to get its IP and DNS addresses automatically. It depends on what you
bought from SBC. Check with them.

Hi guys found the problem it was that damn mcafee plus that was preventing
any installation any access to the web .it was so corrupted the add remove
was not able to remove all of it. had to go into registry and also login as
administrator to take the elements out individually one by one .only then
everything worked.it took all day. spent 3 hours with dell they could not
solve it and spoke to 3 different dummies there.they ripped me off by
charging for the service.dell has become totally horrible ,this is not the
first time.had to hung up at the end .
