XP Disaster!

Can any one help? I have attempted to restore my PC to previous date.
However, I find that I get the message box, 'System Restore not able to
protect your computer. Please restart your computer and then run System
Restore again'

This does not work when I try it.

Also when I try an search my hard drive, I get the message box, 'A file that
is required to run Search Companion cannot be found. You may need to run
setup'

I do not understand this and it does not work.

Also when I go into the Start menu to look for System Restore, via
Accessories and System Tools, I cannot locate Restore.

In my Start menu I also have loads of duplicate copy programmes that seem to
have appeared from no-where.

Any ideas, complete uninstall?

Boot from the XP CD and do a REPAIR install and, hopefully, it will fix your
problems. (Assuming you do not have an OEM CD.)
