Hey everyone, The subject pretty much states the problem. I've got a
Pioneer K12RA that I've had for 2 years with no problems. One day
windows just decided it was a CD RW drive. I tried updating drivers,
firmware to no avail. I tried a system restore, but it would not let
me. So I borrowed a buddies BenQ 1650 DVDRW and it showed up as a CD RW
Drive as well. I can watch movies, I just can burn data to a DVD, it
asks for me to insert a CD. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so
much, Riverfish

have u tried deleting the device, then when windows begins the found new
hardware, you select the "have disk" option and provide the dvd driver?

I've deleted the drive but don't have a disc with the Drivers. Any
other thoughts?

Thanks

the disks with the drive usually have the device drivers. The softwares
provided on the disks are programs added but are not required and can be
bought at the store. The drivers can be downloaded from the website of the
manufacturer of the dvd device. If windows fails to find an appropriate
device driver for your dvd, then exit the process. Then find the dvd's
website look for support / downloads / drivers and find the one for your dvd.
You can download it nto any folder on your pc. Then when you do an add new
hardware, windows will ask you for the location of the driver - which is the
one you downloaded and saved. It is highly likely that the website for your
dvd will also provide copies of any softwares that was included on the disks.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the info, I made some changes to my registry. Windows stil
thinks they are CDRoms but at least I can read and write dvds again.

Thanks,

Riverfis

what is the change?

right now My xp think my dvd+/-rw as CD for writing despite the drive says
dvdrrw gw-4083b and Nero seem to recognize it correctly
However when I try to drag and drop, it ignore it, and ntbackup does not
recognize it as writeable
