cdrw and dvdrw/cdrw drive problem

K

kelly

I have one cdrw drive and a dvdrw/cdrw drive that windows all of a sudden is
having problems with. I can not get either to work and have uninstalled and
reinstalled the hardware drivers. It finds the hardware, but says it has a
problem installing it. States that either my registry is corrupt or there
is incomplete information to install.

If anyone can give me some suggestions as what to do without having to
reinstall windows again I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Kelly

Kelly, try a System File Check. Start>Run type: sfc /scannow
have the xp cd in the cdrom drive.
Also, try rt clicking MyComputer>select Properties>hardware>Device
manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. rt click on Secondary IDE and choose
Uninstall. That should be the one that you have your
cd drives hooked up to. Restart and let XP reinstall it.

The second suggestion didn't solve the problem and the first suggestion
won't work because my CDrom isn't working. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Kelly

I ran the scripts. Now I can see one of the drives in safe mode only. I
still can't get to them through windows explorer when normally boot.
Getting closer, any other ideas!

Thanks,

I had the same problem and after running them a couple of times it finally
stuck.

I have ran the script several times now and it did indeed make my cdrom
accessible. But after using it a couple of time it started having the
problem all over and I would have to run the script several more times. I
will keep playing with it and see what happens. Thanks for your help in
this matter.

Kelly,

Try using the start > run > cmd > sfc /scannow
command in safe mode with the drive that works in safe mode. The
program might also need files which are in the
Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and Windows\System32\dllcache folders.

If this does not work and you still have the problem, uninstall any
recording DVD software and using Start > Run > regedit go to the
following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and delete the values upperfilters and lowerfilters, and reboot.

Good luck
