Can anyone tell how to make the background of my icons clear with the
desktop in classic mode? I have a picture that I like as wallpaper but the
icons are surrounded by blue.

Right click a blank spot on the desktop.
Choos Properties.
On the Appearance tab click Effects.
Uncheck "show shadows under menus"
