XP Desktop Reloads Uncontrollably

I have a bizzare problem. Often after individual windows close the entire
desktop goes blank and then reloads like a fresh start up. I've removed all
of the spyware that I can find using three different tools and the problem
persists...it's been going on for months. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
