XP likes to re-align my icons at boot-up. I tried the "increase folder limit"
trick but no change. Tried all combinations of settings. This re-alignment
occurs every time without fail. Any Ideas?

Have you got the realignment set to auto arrange? Change it to Align to
grid and you can move them where you like then. Right click on desktop to
get at it.

Right click your desktop / Arrange Icons By / Uncheck "Auto Arrange" and
"Align to Grid"
Once you do that, your icons should remain where you put them.

As I stated in my original post I have tried ALL of the settings
combinations. this happens weather I have align to grid or auto-arrange or
whatever. Believe me I know what I'm doing in windows and this is NOT the
problem. The re-set occours at the very end of the boot-up sequence , just
befoe the "hourglass" goes away.

Sounds like you got a nasty. Weird one at that. Have you run anti crud
programs?

Hello Again,
We run a server managed symantec anti-virus and I run Spy-Bot S&D about once
a week. I find the usual tracking cookies and such but nothing horrible.
Could this have anything to do with the video-card?

Any chance you're running a program like 'WinTidy', something that puts all
of your desktop icons "back where they belong" (based on positions it has
stored) when it feels they've been moved or the resolution changes?

Anything you don't recognize in your 'Startup' tab if you run msconfig?

Hi Roger,

Suggestions:

1. Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

2. Go to: Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden File and
Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files.

Delete Icon Cache. It is located here:

IconCache.db
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data

To clear and reset icon cache:

Right click the Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced. Use the item
drop box and choose Icon. Change the pixel number by one. Ok your way
out.

Increase Icon Cache (Line 121)

Correct/Repair the Icon View (Line 4)

Tip:

Add Icon Cache Size to Folder Options/View (Line 166)

3. See line 188 (right hand side):

4. Good luck and keep us posted. :o)
