I don't know what NV4 is, but I do know that all caps is hard to read (and
is considered 'shouting') - please write as though you were trying to please
a picky English teacher and you'll get more help. :)

Can you boot into safe mode and do a system restore?
You did do a backup of all your data before you started the upgrade, right?

Note - always make sure your system is clean of viruses and spyware before
running an OS upgrade - you likely had a messed up system to begin with,
which will not upgrade well. AdAware, Spybot, and the MS Antispyware Beta
are good - and your AV software should be of recent vintage and recently
updated.

didnt do back up please help

sounds to me like the computer is starting up in safe mode only, restart your
computer, as soon as the computer flips off and on again start to press the
f8 key, a screen will come up with some choices, go to start windows normally
and hit enter, and enter again.

Since you did not take the normal precaution of backing up your data
before doing a major operating system upgrade, take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). They will be able to retrieve your data and fix your
computer.

I thought it was normal practice for windows to backup files and make a good
restore point, once bitten twice shy never again will i install without having
back up.i am presuming i am in safe mode.before i pressf8 and try to start
windows in normal mode do i need back up important files ie,photos,
documents, some drivers.can the stystem get any more unstable,is wiping and
reinstalling xp an option if all help fails,i dont want to take it to experts
because i have allways had 100percent results from the expertise online,a big
thanks to everyone that has replied

Have you tried running System Restore from Safe Mode? Is there an
available Restore Point that is from prior to the install of SP2?

If so try selecting that and see if it will get your machine back to a
usable condition.

Good luck

I suspect that the "NV4 file" is NV4_DISP.DLL, a driver file for an
nVidia video card.

XP restore doesn't care about your personal files. That is NOT its
function.
