Troubleshooting XP system crash when using remote assistance

For some reason our daughter's machine (recent Intel-based XP-home
system, SP2 with all updates and Norton antivirus) experiences a
system crash (system hangs-no BSOD) quite frequently in the middle of
remote-assistance sessions using MSN Messenger. I can think of a
number of strategies that I might use to try to find out what the
trouble is if it were not for the fact that our daughter lives at the
other end of the province which rules out anything involving my being
physically present when such a crash occurs.

I would be grateful for any suggestions about how to diagnose and
correct this problem under the circumstances.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd start by carefully reviewing the Event Viewer error log for events around
the time of the hang.

You also may want to try using another remote assistance program to see if
that resolves the problem.
