XP & CPU upgrade

Can I expect any XP software problems if I upgrade my CPU? Will it continue
to work as it did with the old CPU?

Maybe...........at the worst you might need to reactivate by phone or if it
is a drastic change..from single core to dual core..a Repair installation.

I recently replace a Celeron 1.7 GHz socket 478 with a P4
2.8 GHz. The only change, besides getting faster all the
way around, was the FSB was 400 MHz on the Celeron and is
now 533 with the P4.

But to give a better answer, you need to state what mobo and
CPU you are asking about.

Did a CPU upgrade without any problems on two separate systems. Note that
your motherboard must support the CPU you are going to upgrade to and it
would not hurt to check your memory specs also.

Motherboard is ASUS P5P800-VM

Current CPU is Celeron D331 (2.66ghz, 533 FSB) socket 775.

Mobo supports Celeron D thru 365, a bunch of P4s (505 thru 672) and Pentium
D805 thru 960, and a few more.

Based on replies, the most trouble free path would be to stick with single
core processors.

It would be the best use of your money to buy the most
capable CPU you can afford and that is supported by the
mobo. A repair install will enable needed support and is
generally trouble free.
